In this episode, we talked in detail about Promine’s new compatibility: BricsCAD, developed by Bricsys. BricsCAD is a powerful software application for computer-aided design and construction information modeling. The application also offers conceptual modeling and project collaboration tools. With an international reputation, where partners from more than 80 countries are registered as application developers, Promine is glad to form this alliance to offer more solutions to the mining, surveying and geology industries.

We had the honour to host a special guest:

➡️Scott Pember; Mr. Pember is currently managing channel sales and ISV partnerships for Bricsys North America. He is Enterprising sales and market development leader with more than $250 million (two hundred fifty million dollars) in “new products” delivered worldwide. He is an expert at driving new business growth through strategic partnerships such as global SI’s, channel partners, ISVs and alliance developers.
Mr. Pember has spent his career serving AEC and manufacturing customers, providing world class solutions with companies like Autodesk, Oce, and now Hexagon. He has also started and later sold two separate businesses, serving these same markets.
Mr. Pember currently lives in Phoenix, AZ enjoying the weather, playing golf in the winter and tournament bowling during the hot summer months.

In this episode, we had the honor to have 2 amazing women sharing their experiences in the mining industry.
We talked about the difficulties of being part of an industry that is largely male-dominated, why it is vital that women’s voice is heard for the mining sector to improve in equity, diversity and inclusion. We consider it is everyone’s responsibility to work for a transformation that benefits employees, communities, businesses and organizations.

👷🏼‍♀️Eva Dierkes
Eva, has a master’s degree in mining engineering from Germany. After moving to Canada she worked for a few years as a QC specialist in the video game industry. She joined Promine nearly 5 years ago as a QA specialist and has since then become the VP of Technical Services.

👷🏻‍♀️Rim Kouider
Rim is a junior mining engineer who graduated from McGill University. Throughout her internships, she acquired a diversified experience in material handling, process, drill & blast, and project management. She worked with Rio Tinto in project management and controls and has now joined Tetra Tech as a junior engineering consultant. Additionally, she studies management of the mineral industry and is highly involved in the student community. She helped organize the 32d edition of the Canadian Mining Games and will stay on the team as part of the Board of Directors.​

➡️ Pedro Gamboa; Pedro is Geologist and a mining specialist. Currently, he works as a Project Manager for the Consulting Department at Promine Inc. Leader of a group of geologists, him and his team provide support to mining sites in the digital acquisition of databases, records and plans. With a background of more than 14 years teaching CAD Systems, GIS, Basic Programming, Database Manipulation, as well as interaction with Operating Systems and Office Automation, he previously obtained the position of Associate Professor, and the Department Chair of Civil Engineering at the Universidad de Oriente in Venezuela. In addition, he performed academic research collaborations with A.C.

➡️ Elie Abou-Jaoude; Elie is a graduate researcher in global mine development and sustainability in the Mining and Materials Engineering Department at McGill University. He currently develops and facilitates international training programs on systems thinking and personal transformation for students and engineers in academic institutions, using his background in coaching (ACC-Certified) to foster an experiential learning environment. Elie describes his approach to mining as integral and holistic, with a focus on human empowerment and community development. He has presented his research findings in several conferences since 2015 including CIM, ISMSSE, and GEOMIN.

➡️ Dr. Mustafa Kumral; P. Eng and Associate Professor in the Department of Mining and Materials Engineering at McGill University. He has over 20 years of experience in mining engineering research and teaching in Canada, the United Kingdom and Turkey. He obtained his PhD from the Department of Mining and Mineral Engineering at the University of Leeds in 2000. His research focuses on surface mining, mine systems optimization, reliability and maintenance analysis, and mine risk analysis. He has held many research grants individually and in collaboration with other researchers. Over the years, Dr. Kumral has published more than 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. He has also supervised over 20 master’s and PhD students. He has taught several courses focusing on mineral economics, open pit mining, and mining reliability.

➡️ Caelen Burand; An ambitious mining engineering and geology student at the University of Arizona Honors College. As a striving polymath enthusiastic about responsible resourcing, Caelen has been working in mineral exploration and mining since the age of 16 in various positions as a mine geologist, entrepreneur, and engineer within diverse organizations like Nevada Gold Mines, Cholla Lapidary, and the Last Chance Mine. With a personal mission to improve the status quo, he leads Mercury Free Mining’s research program mitigating mercury use in artisanal and small-scale mining across the globe. Furthermore, he is developing a novel transdisciplinary student research hub at the Lowell Institute of Mineral Resources and is founder and director of Young Mining Professionals Arizona. In these roles he actively works with diverse teams to enhance young miners and the mining industry. During his free time, Caelen enjoys taking care of his dogs, investigating global politics, learning new disciplines, and exploring the rural, natural world.
